The Issue with Issues
“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith —more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7
It seems each week a new issue is brought up in our culture. These issues seem to be shifting our culture and creating debates between each side. And as each new issue comes to light, each side more adamantly believes in their own case, creating tension and anger among friends, co-workers, and sometimes even family.
As a follower of Christ, with strong beliefs, I wrestle to speak my opinion in love. But as of late I have started to wonder if these issues and debates are bringing honor to Jesus Christ. It seems we can become so wrapped up in the issue and lose sight of what our goal here on earth is.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’” Romans 1:16-17
This year in Bible Study Fellowship we are studying the book of Romans. And I was reminded this week, that the story of salvation is for both sides. So the next time I find my self on the opposite side of an issue as someone else, I will remember the issue is not what is important, but loving the person no matter what.
To complete our goal here on earth, bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ.
And I will rest in His peace and live in Faith.
