The Full Armor of God
The few weeks leading up to community festival and VBS were difficult for me. Many frustrating and difficult roadblocks were appearing in all aspects of my life. To make matters worse temptations that I believed “I” had conquered were resurfacing. I couldn’t put my finger on it at first but things felt out of balance.
A verse had been on my mind and heart for a few weeks:
“Be sober-minded, be watchful. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a lion watching for some to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
I realized the first night of VBS that God was gently reminding me to abide in Him and his peace. You see, the devil wants nothing more to put doubt and unrest in the hearts of any who say, not only do I believe Jesus, but I want to tell others about him. It was a great reminder to me to gear up with all of the armor that God had given us before jumping into ministry. It is comforting to know the war is won, but a great reminder to continue to prepare for the spiritual battle that wages in our earthly world.
Ephesians 6:13-18 says;
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
As we grow deeper in our faith what an amazing blessing to have our church family around us to encourage, our Bibles to cling to, prayer to ease us, and the Holy Spirit to guide us.
